This past week we celebrated our 30th Anniversary. It was a treat for us to have guests from Tokusui join us to celebrate three decades of business — in addition a Seattle Mariners’ win over the California Angels.

The celebration continued as we participated in the launch of SmartCatch, “a new sustainable seafood program created with chefs for chefs to recognize restaurants working toward ensuring an abundant supply of seafood for generations to follow.”

When you were a child what job did you want to have when you grew up? I wanted to be a stock broker was I was a kid.

What are you most proud of in your career? The great friendships I have developed within the industry.

What is your idea of perfect happiness? An ice cold diet coke on a sunny day ha ha.

What is your biggest business regret? I don’t really think in terms of regrets.

What’s the most difficult thing about running a company? Going home at night.

Favorite movie of all time? Definitely The Matrix when it first came out.

Name 3 songs on your iPod/playlist. “One Love” Bob Marley, “Holiday” Collie Budz, “Trouble” Ray Lamontagne.

What is your favorite hobby? Boating the San Juan islands.

What is your biggest extravagance? Dining out. Seattle has some amazing restaurants and I eat out often.

Which words or phrases do you most over use? “Awesome” and “cool.”

What is your greatest fear? My mother passed away from cancer when my kids were just babies and I fear not getting to be a grandfather one day.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself? I’m very impulsive.

When were you the happiest in your career? When I won a bet for picking a dime off the floor with a forklift.

What is your most treasured possession? My 2001 GTI. Such a fun car to drive.

What is the quality you admire most in a person? Creativity.

What is the quality you admire least in a person? Selfishness.

What is best about your management style? You would have to ask my colleagues that one.

What is your motto? Know your audience.

Do you have any superstitions? Yes……

Who are your favorite writers? I read a lot including airport fiction stuff but also books that are recommended to me like “Matterhorn” by Karl Marlantes was a book my son read in school and he thought I would like. He was right.

What is it you most dislike? Business buzz words like “circle back.”

How are you helping improve the world? By having helped raise two amazing kids.

Your perfect meal? Grilled king salmon and cold beer.

How will you know when it’s time to retire? My coworkers will let me know.

As for the Omega-3 Challenge? Yeah, that’s still happening and the gauntlet has been “rethrown” about half way through the challenge.
